I just got back from a very successful trip to the volcanoes of Kamchatka where we climbed and photographed live volcanoes. We visited two of the four volcanoes which are active on Kamchatka right now: Tolbachik and Shiveluch. We climbed the live cone of Tolbachik and were able to observe the lava lake at very close quarters. Shiveluch was very active and had massive pyroclastic flows tearing down its slopes. A massive pyroclastic avalanch came very close to our camp and we hurriedly packed up and moved to a safer location.
We could see Kizimen on the horizon and were close enough see the pyroclastic flows roaring down its slopes. Karymsky is the last volcano which is active on the peninsula. I will upload a full set soon.
