Lava flow from Tolbachik, Kamchatka

Lava from Tolbachik volcano

Lava from Tolbachik volcano

The lava folds as it cools and is pressed by fresh lava flowing out of Tolbachik volcano on the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia. Tolbachik volcano erupted in November 2012 and continues to remain active till date. When we visited the volcano still had lava erupting out of the live cone and the lava flows were still creeping along across the plains. We would approach with a few feet of the lava and it flowed at quite a slow rate where we were standing.
