Nanda Ghunti ( 6309m), Indian Himalayas
One of my favourite photographs I have taken in the Himalaya, Nanda Ghunti in the Garhwal Himalaya. I took this photograph while on a short trek somewhere above the village of Wan. We got lost on our way down and came across a bugyal or high altitude pasture and had this stunning view of Nanda Ghunti. Trishul (7120m) is also visible on the right of the tree.
Nanda Ghunti was first surveyed by TG Longstaff in 1907 and Eric Shipton surveyed it from West in 1931. The first serious attempt was made by BP Goodfellow and J Buz (UK), in 1944. A Swiss team under André Roch made the first ascent via the East Ridge in 1947.
